Basic Level Blocking
The basic level blocking for Motor Racing’s World Championship will involve how the levels are presented, where the enemies will spawn from, where the goal is and what challenges may arise. Each level would be presented in a race-by-race format, similar to Mario Kart. Each level will contain 5 laps to complete, ending with a winner, runner-up and third place gaining points. If the driver or competitor collides with the wall, or in Unity terms, collide with a box collider, the driver/competitor will be penalised by losing points. The mechanics of the car are quite particular and wall collisions are ubiquitous. The moment a driver will collide with another driver/competitor, both vehicles will respawn to the starting position and restart the current lap they have been penalised on. The goal is to beat the other competitors and the most likely way to do this is to not collide with or each other. The challenge will be to ensure you are the fastest driver as well as knowing when to slow down to avoid penalties.
Invisible box colliders will be placed on both sides of the track. This will mimic the idea of a safety barrier. There is an element of challenge to try and needle your way around the other competitors to gain advantage and avoid the barriers. Tilemaps placed particularly for background concept are screenshots from Google Maps’ satellite view of Monaco City. To reflect beginner’s capability, the lack of smooth appearing tilemaps to envision the geography of Monaco City from a top-down perspective is not seamless. It ultimately is an ‘eye-sore’ to the experience of the game. It is hoped for players of the game to imagine the potential for design. It would be a more positive experience for the player once the game layout/designing skill has improved.
